I see there's a tipping debate going on in the US where more and more places ask for a tip.

I always found this very strange, at the same time, I also find it strange that people are so passionately for or against.

If you don't want to do it, then don't. And if you do, then do.

But I cannot understand people who complain about emotional pain when being asked to tip in public. It seems many people are now too emotionally fragile for life and would only be comfortable sitting at home (...)

never experiencing any emotional resistance or an opposing point of view.

Perhaps liberdon would be a good shock treatment? ;)

@h4890 what seemed to be the majority opinion? I'm on the fence about it honestly. I don't use tipping properly though. Theres a customary amount, I tend to go a little higher, makes the math easy, but I don't differentiate good service vs. great service. I probably haven't left a tip for bad service once in my life, but I can't remember when.

@BaronBurdock

Given that it was the US I would think the majority is pro tipping overall.

I come from a no, or little, tip culture (northern europe) so I only tip in restaurants and never more than 5%.

At the end of the day however, I think this should be up to the business owner, and I can then, as a customer, choose to visit no tip, or pro tip places.

@h4890 theres a scene in Reservoir Dogs where Harvey Keitel and Steve Buscemi get into it about tipping. That movie has to be about 30 years old, its good to know our problems in the US never change.

I like the idea of places saying upfront what's expected. Every time I go to Quebec I have to google what I'm expected to do haha

@BaronBurdock

Haha, yes, I'm sure even the romans had the same discussion. ;)
