I think that you need a pretty substantial amount of land, time, money and effort if you think that growing at home will protect you.

Keeping finland in mind, I would much rather buy a cottage deep in karelen or north, where there is plenty of game and fishing water.

Then you would have a good food supply that will take you less time, money and effort to collect.
