liberdon.com is one of the many independent Mastodon servers you can use to participate in the fediverse.
Liberdon is an instance for libertarians, ancaps, anarchists, voluntaryists, agorists, etc to sound off without fear of reprisal. It was created in the wake of the Great Twitter Cullings of 2018.

I have a #Mastodon feature request. Could there please be a specialized emoji for the #XMPP logo? To put it beside one's name? It can draw attention to an XMPP "Chat ID" that one has put in one's Mastodon profile. Similarly, it would make sense to also have emojis for the #Deltachat logo, #Matrix logo, etc. Basically, every other #OpenSource federated network (#Pixelfed? #Peertube?) would likewise deserve an emoji.

This is so that Mastodonians can draw attention to the accounts they have on other #Fediverse servers. It's a visual cue, right by their names, inviting others to tap/click their avatars/names, and have a look at their profile, where further contact info could be presented. It would encourage people to use Federated services more, then display their involvement to others.

Another useful feature of Delta Chat.

My Delta Chat app is synchronised across 5 devices. 3 Android phones(1 x Google, 1 x LineageOS and 1 x GrapheneOS), 1 MacBook Pro/Linux Mint 22.1 laptop and a Mac Pro 5,1/Linux Mint 22.1 Desktop.

Each profile within the app allows for "Saved Messages". So if you save a note to yourself as a message and post it on one device, it is available to all implementations of the app.

For example, I recently needed to keep a diary of blood pressure readings for a week for my doctor(coz' I'm an old bugger).

I recorded these readings as notes in Saved Messages on my laptop and when I needed them, sitting in my doctor's office, they were on the mobile phone I had with me at the time.

I'm not sure what the security implications are around this, but from experience, its one of the easiest note keeping and sharing apps I've ever come across, particularly as a cross-platform option.

Brilliant little feature well worth considering the app for in it's own rite.

There is no shortage of startups and enterprises animated by, or outright proclaiming, replacing e-mail as the de-facto open internet messaging standard. VC Investors are forever fascinated by funding such endeavours. #matrix #simplex #slack etc are examples.

#deltachat endorses e-mail but reconfigures and repurposes it to serve for interoperable instant messaging. The #chatmail server network relays end to end encrypted e-mail only, and servers are reduced to dumb store-and-forward relays.

Another #deltachat release highlight that we didn't tell about yet: De-duplication of attachments and media files. De-duplication means that if you share a larger file to multiple chats, it will only ever exist once in each sending and receiving device's storage.

Same for #webxdc apps -- so if you use the 650KB big "v86emu" app running 32-bit ISO images, it will also only exist once in storage, even if each instance in a chat creates its own realtime LAN. Mini-tutorial chaos.social/@delta/1141616261

app-selector in Delta Chat with "v86emu" highlighted.

also an input field is visible where the "attach" icon is next to it.

Inside v86 app "Choose file", select an iso (download for example https://dl-cdn.alpinelinux.org/alpine/v3.21/releases/x86/alpine-standard-3.21.3-x86.iso) and hit "Start" button. Login as "Root", no password.

Having lots of fun using Delta Chat. I've set up two accounts on my mail server, one for myself and one for my husband. We're both surprised at how fast it is compared to more traditional centralised chat apps like Signal. It's so cool to be able to self-host this and not rely on centralised infrastructure that is outside of my control.

Now I just need to convince everyone I know it's really cool :)

@delta

@feld @delta I thought the blog post was good, and two points really stuck out:
1) For ease of adding contacts, since you can scan barcodes between smartphones, Deltachat might as well be another Signal or WhatsApp (for how convenient this is). I had to admit that scanning a barcode to add a contact is becoming more commonplace by the day - kudos to #deltachat for supporting it.
2) When migration to another server was mentioned as being so easy, thanks to AEAP - "Advanced Email Address Porting" - that seriously blew my mind. I jumped out of my chair and exclaimed something to the effect of "shut the front door!"
