HEADS UP: sets `_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2` across the entire ecosystem (base + ports). Please let us know if you come across any issues: groups.google.com/a/hardenedbs

Dear qt{5,6}-webengine,

I'm waiting for you to finish compiling.

Increasingly impatient,

Hacker who builds his own packages

Microsoft's port of for Windows came from the implementation!

I don't understand why people are so angry here in Colorado Springs.

?

A process has been running for hours without output.

I miss you, SIGINFO.

Unfounded and likely untrue conspiracy theory

Bitcoin was created to serve as a psyop campaign to determine what level of environmental destruction we humans would accept, paving the way for our AI overlords to drastically overshadow that impact.

Current status: Updating my 15-CURRENT/amd64 laptop to take into account the _FORTIFY_SOURCE changes.

Gonna do a limited package build as well. Let's see what breaks and attempt to fix it!

Part of our new team was interviewed for the BSDNow podcast about the 20th conference. Thank you for welcoming us on the show! 💞 bsdnow.tv/558

Conference committee member @pitrh has shared all of this year's individual talk info to so you can leaf through the 2024 programming directly (and register, we hope!) We'd love to hear about any talks that have you especially excited, and please share them around as you'd like...remember that if you can't make it we're livestreaming and will also post talks later, but we hope to get to see many of your lovely faces in person! (behind N95 or equivalent within the venue, please... we're protecting our vulnerable members and elders :flan_heart:)

I know historically, the wider community had security-related concerns related to the port of doas to FreeBSD.

Anyone know if those concerns were ever addressed? I can't even remember what the concerns were in the first place.

#PPOD: NASA's Voyager 1 probe launched in 1977 and is now the most distant human-made object from Earth, traveling through interstellar space. Recently, NASA engineers had to figure out why the probe was suddenly sending unreadable data. After nearly six months of analysis and re-programming, they got Voyager correctly transmitting again. Truly a feat of human ingenuity. Credit: Dave Granlund

teaches its ports tree about _FORTIFY_SOURCE, setting it to 2 by default for 15-CURRENT/amd64 users:

git.hardenedbsd.org/hardenedbs

And, again, I would like to thank Stormshield for doing the heavy lifting. They ported the _FORTIFY_SOURCE implementation from to : cgit.FreeBSD.org/src/commit/?i

sets _FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 across the base operating system by default: git.hardenedbsd.org/hardenedbs

We'll be guinea pigs for this awesome work sponsored by Stormshield for : cgit.freebsd.org/src/commit/?i

We will also work on integration in the ports tree soon.

product vendor Stormshield upstreamed their _FORTIFY_SOURCE implementation: cgit.FreeBSD.org/src/commit/?i

Good job! We'll definitely enable this in .

As a periodic reminder, if you're looking for bugs to squash in projects, the project has an issue board that lists issues we'd like help with: git.hardenedbsd.org/groups/har

Yes, #BSDCan is more expensive this year. Registration was $199 from 2005-2019. That's $230.77 in today's money. saving.org/inflation/inflation

The cost this year, for the con and the dinner? $320.

We'll be talking finances at our closing session, so y'all can see where the money goes.
