Collectivists have hijacked "identity" to mean "group membership." You are yourself, not an instance of someone's categorization.

@gmcgath OK, but the problem is that large groups are usually more "powerful" using brute force than individuals. Large groups can form armies and plunder other unorganized individuals. Defeating a large organized army is virtually impossible for a single individual. Because of this (and obviously because of many other things) individuals need to join large communities with which they can defend themselves from the attack of other groups. I think this is a complicated issue for libertarianism.

@liber I don't think what you said disagrees with anything in my article. I was talking on the level of responding to ideas and proposing better ones, which always happens on the individual level. Physical defense is a different issue.
